Help at hand for students
STUDENTS heading away from our region to study or train elsewhere in Australia can get some financial assistance.

Services Australia spokesperson Hank Jongen said it was important to know what help was out there.
“Understanding what support is out there can help make your decisions clearer. For some, accessing that support may even make the move possible in the first place,” he said.
Eligible students may receive:
Tertiary Access Payment: A one-off cash boost of up to $5,000 to help students from regional, rural, and remote areas with the cost of moving for study.
Relocation Scholarship: A yearly payment of up to $5,500 for those who have moved more than 90 minutes from their family home to study.
Student Start Up loan: A voluntary loan of $1,321 for students, which they can access up to twice per year.
Fares Allowance: for students receiving a student payment, they can also access Fares Allowance to help with travel costs.
Rent Assistance: for students receiving a student payment, they can also access Rent Assistance if they pay rent.
