Herberton Cadets a winning combination
A TEAM of emergency services cadets from Herberton has been crowned overall winners at the annual Cadet Games, held in Townsville.

Twelve members of the Tablelands Emergency Services Cadets Herberton Unit travelled to the city on 27 June to test their skills against cadets from a range of emergency services and youth organisations across Queensland during a day of friendly competition.
TESC Adult Leader Megan Wyatt said it was an “outstanding achievement” for the young locals.
The Herberton Cadet unit has 16 young members who meet every Wednesday evening during the school term to learn valuable emergency services skills through a PCYC program.
Training covers disciplines including Ambulance, Police, SES, Fire and Rescue and Rural Fire Brigade.
Two teams of six competed on the day, with “Team 2” announced overall winners.
“While we are incredibly proud of the winning team, we are equally proud of all our cadets,” Ms Wyatt said.
“Throughout the day they demonstrated outstanding teamwork, resilience, camaraderie and enthusiasm while showcasing the skills they have worked so hard to develop.
“This achievement is a credit to the commitment of our cadets, the support of their families and the dedication of our volunteer leaders, led by cadet coordinator Lee Symons.”
The teams were tested on their emergency response skills, teamwork, leadership and problem-solving skills, with activities including first-aid scenarios, navigation exercises, obstacle courses and team challenges.
The competition was judged by emergency services and defence personnel.
