High Tea marks Maize Festival month

AN afternoon of elegance, laughter, and community spirit is planned for the annual High Tea to mark the beginning of the Atherton Maize Festival on Sunday.

This year’s event will be at a new venue, the Atherton Clay Target Club, and will celebrate one of the Maize Festival’s most cherished traditions - the official introduction of the new Maize Queens and Princesses entrants.

“These remarkable young women represent the heart of our region, and we’re proud to honour them in true Tablelands style,” Maize Festival committee member Helen Bensilum said.

Guests will enjoy a delicious selection of sweet and savoury high tea favourites, live local music, lucky door prizes, games and raffles, all to raise money for the community.

This year’s festival, with the theme “Wild West”, will also include the highlight of the social calendar, the glamorous Maize Ball on Friday 16 August, and the following weekend, the festival finale, the Maize Festival Main Street Parade on Saturday 30 August.

The High Tea will be held on 3 August, from 1pm to 4.30pm at the Atherton Clay Target Club, 1 Riffle Range Road, Atherton.
