Horsepower party and mechanical mayhem
FAR North Queensland’s largest and loudest motorsport celebration returns to Springmount Raceway this Friday promising a jam-packed weekend of tyre smoke and mechanical mayhem.

The annual Northern Nats event is a celebration of car culture, where enthusiasts from across Australia converge for three days of burnouts, roll racing, drag racing, drifting demos, show ‘n’ shine displays, power skids, cruising, live DJs, kids’ entertainment, and more.
“Whether you’re a diehard petrolhead or just along for the good times, Northern Nats is perfect for the whole family. There’s truly something for everyone,” organisers said.
Two new additions to the festival include a cruise route featuring Skid Row, inspired by the Street Machine Summernats, and a new Street Elite Pavilion showcasing some of the finest show cars from the region and beyond.
This year’s event has already attracted over 200 registered entrants from across the country, from local legends to national heavyweights.
At the heart of the action is the Pro Burnout Series, featuring elite drivers like Peter Grmusa in his 1200hp supercharged XA Falcon known as KINGXA, alongside a Development Class giving rising talent a platform to shine.
Other major highlights include the first round of the Springmount Drag Racing Championship, the fiercely contested Go to Whoa, and the coveted Northern Nats Champion title - awarded to the entrant who best blends performance and presentation.
For the full Northern Nats experience, nothing beats camping trackside where you’ll be immersed in the action, atmosphere, and after-hours vibes.
“Multi-day ticket holders can roll in on Thursday, set up with their crew, and enjoy three full days of non-stop horsepower without ever leaving the party.”
Organisers warn BYO alcohol is not permitted, but two fully stocked bars will be operating across the venue.
Northern Nats 9 is also part of the newly formed Cairns Tri Series, which also includes fan-favourites Tropical Meltdown and Skids for Santa.
“The event is also a major boost for the local tourism economy, with thousands of attendees supporting accommodation providers, vendors, and small businesses throughout the Tablelands and Cairns region.”
Pre-purchasing tickets before 15 May offers big savings, plus an exclusive deal on Street Machine Magazine subscriptions.
The event runs from Friday 16 May to Sunday 18 May. For more information got to northernnats.com.au
