It’s time to light it up!
FESTIVE celebrations in the Mareeba Shire are off to a glittering start with the annual Christmas Lights Competition now underway.

Supported by the Mareeba Shire Council and The Express newspaper, the competition was a “wonderful opportunity for residents, businesses and neighbours to spread some Christmas cheer for the whole community to enjoy”, Mayor Angela Toppin said.
“Last year, we had 22 amazing entries across four categories for residential homes, rural homes, businesses and streets.”
Participants can enter the categories – Best Residential, Best Business, Best Street, and Best Rural – online by going to the council’s website.
Entries should include a photo and a short 20-30 second video of the lights.
If any participant is unable to apply online, contact the council for assistance on 1300 308 461.
Entries close on Sunday 7 December and the winner will be announced on Friday 12 December.
Winners will also receive a cash prize of $150.
The Express will publish the winners in its last edition of the year on 17 December as well a list of all of the properties who entered the light competition so families can see them before Christmas.
