Karate kids to represent QLD
THREE young karate kids from a Tolga club have been selected to represent their state at a national championship event later this year.

Asha Jaszczyszyn, Jakob Carleton, and Samuel Carleton competed at the Queensland Karate State Titles recently, with all three earning a spot on the Queensland team in which they will compete in at the National Karate Championships in Tasmania on 12 July.

Asha, a 1st Dan Black Belt, competed in the 15 year old junior girls division and delivered an exceptional performance. With five years of dedicated training, she dominated her division from start to finish, winning gold with an 8-0 victory in the final. Her two clean head kick scores showcased her precision, timing, and confidence under pressure.

Jakob, a 3rd Kyu Purple Belt, competed in the 10-11 year old under 40 kg junior division. After four years of consistent training, he stepped onto the mat with strong technique and determination.
Jakob’s performance earned him a gold medal, demonstrating resilience and a solid understanding of competition pressure.

Samuel, a 2nd Kyu Brown Belt, competed in the 12-13 year old under 40 kg junior division. With five years of training and steady improvement, he fought strongly throughout the event and showed excellent composure and technique.
Samuel earned the bronze medal, losing only to the eventual winner of the division. His disciplined approach and commitment to continuous improvement were evident in every match.
All three students have been training diligently at the Tolga training hall since 2021 under the guidance of their instructor, Brett Carleton.
“Their achievements at the State Titles highlights their dedication, passion, and perseverance, and their selection for the Queensland team marks a proud milestone for both the students and the club,” Mr Carleton said.
