Mayor Angela Toppin said the “worthy project” would make the hall more resilient and bring it up to compliance standards.

Upgrades of the Koah facility will include structural repairs, resurfacing of the carpark, and the installation of generators to ensure the hall remains operational during emergencies.

The hall provides essential shelter for the community during disasters, as well as being a hive of activity, with fitness and yoga classes, pool competitions, markets, and with an outdoor area that includes an aerial circus zone, basketball and tennis courts.

The land was originally owned by the Musumeci family who worked with council to acquire the land as a Recreation Reserve, and formally took over as Trustee of the land in 1987, naming it Musumeci Park.

Community fundraising delivered a tennis court in 1988, and in 1993 the community sought approval from the council to build the hall, which included toilets. It was officially opened the public in 1994.
