TRC previously donated land on Kelly Street, Atherton for the association’s Curtain Fig Cottages Project, which involves the construction of five duplexes (10 one-bedroom units) for older women.

Now, the project will be extended to include more units.

“TCHA has requested a further 1384m 2 of freehold land, adjacent to the current site on Kelly Street, so they can continue to expand their housing for the community,” Cr Con Spanos said.

“Their plan is to build a further four duplexes (eight one-bedroom units) for seniors, which is a real game changer for services that support older people to live at home.

“The Kelly Street location is central to town amenities while still being part of a larger green space.

“We’re proud to be able to continue to donate land to TCHA for this important project, and this is one of the many ways we are showing our ongoing commitment to older people in our community and support for our Local Housing Action Plan objectives, THCA’s Housing Strategy and Queensland Government’s Homes for Queenslanders Plan.”

TCHA chief executive officer Cate Teece acknowledged TRC’s ongoing support and expressed appreciation for the generous donation.

“This commitment by TRC expands our ability to increase the supply of social and affordable housing on the Tablelands,” she said.

“By making this project possible, TRC is helping ensure our seniors can live safely, comfortably and with dignity at home and demonstrates TRC’s strong commitment to the wellbeing of older members of our community.”
