Last days for free breast screening

WOMEN in the Mareeba district are being encouraged to take advantage of the free breast screening clinic which finishes on 18 March.

The free service has been offered through a mobile breast screening unit at the Mareeba Hospital since early January and provides an opportunity for women to have the test done locally instead of travelling to Cairns.

Women aged from 50 to 74 years are particularly encouraged to have a breast screen every two years, as increasing age is the biggest risk factor in developing breast cancer.

Women from the age of 40 and those choosing to continue screening after 75 are also eligible to attend for a breast screen.

The mobile breast screen vehicle, nicknamed Rosie, provides access to the latest breast cancer screening digital technology which allows for a quick turnaround of breast screen images from remote locations allowing clinicians to review them and deliver timely results.

Phone 13 20 50 or visit breastscreen. qld.gov.au to book an appointment
