Anglers flock to Barra Bash

THE 2019 Barra Bash was a huge success with hundreds taking to the water to fish Tinaroo Dam over the weekend in search of the biggest Barra.

THE 2019 Barra Bash was a huge success with hundreds taking to the water to fish Tinaroo Dam over the weekend in search of the biggest Barra.

The annual event saw 853 keen anglers nominate – 563 adults, 213 juniors and 77 small fry.

Eleven species were reported over the three days – 218 barra, 87 redclaw, 931 catfish, 125 tilapia and 41 sooty grunter. Of the 218 barra caught, 34 (15%) were over 1m.

The champion angler was Liam Casella of Cairns who caught a total of 22 fish for a total length of 13.67.

Winner of the Tableland Hardware $10,000 lucky draw was Darryl Panigas of Kairi and the Junior longest barra (1180) went to Anthony Simonato of Mareeba.
