Recently BWS  asked Australians to vote on their favourite local alcohol producers with the winners being given the opportunity to have their local sprits, beers and wines stocked on BWS shelves.

The Mt Uncle Distillery which is halfway between Mareeba and Atherton was named fan favourite in the Spirits/Premix category for Queensland.

Nearly 300 independent winemakers, brewers and distillers across the country threw their products in the ring in the BWS Local Luvva campaign, which called for customers to vote on their favourite local independent alcohol producers.

Almost 50,000 consumers had their say, and 18 Fan Favourites were crowned across the country with winners named in every state in the categories wine, spirit/pre-mix and beer/cider.

The winners will now have their product stocked in BWS stores as well as marketing and advertising support.

Mark Watkins, Head Distiller and Director at Mt Uncle said The Local Luvva campaign was a way to generate more interest in locally produced products.

“Our original Botanic Australis Gin was a winner in the campaign, which means our distillery will now be stocked in BWS outlets,” hey said.

“It’s great they now acknowledge craft sprits.”

“It’s really good for our sales as it now allows people greater access to our products, which means that we don’t have to rely on local sales or boutique bar and restaurant sales.

Mr Watkins also said that by being stocked in BWS outlets meant more security for the distillery.

“It helps with production and helps to keep us afloat, as recently we took a hit when bars and restaurants closed across the country,” he said.

“This is a big help to us to be stocked in BWS bottle stores, where people can access our product more easily.”

Mr Watkins said the win was all down to the quality of his gin.

“The Botanic Australis Gin has a really good strong fan base and it’s a really good quality gin and it’s very unique because we use only Australian botanicals,” he said.

“It’s quintessentially the Australian Gin”

As part of the Local Luvva campaign, BWS will promote Mt Uncle’s range of local products in stores and online as well as an advertising campaign that includes over 600 billboards and digital screens across the country.
