The Chief Executive of the Cairns and Hinterland Hospital and Health Service (CHHHS) Clare Douglas has handed in her resignation.

The Chief Executive of the Cairns and Hinterland Hospital and Health Service (CHHHS) Clare Douglas has handed in her resignation.

A statement from Clive Skarott the Board Chair of the CHHHS, has paid tribute to Ms Douglas “It is with great regret that I announce the resignation of our Chief Executive Clare Douglas.

“Clare is an outstanding Chief Executive and leader who has led the Cairns and Hinterland HHS through a period of significant change. She has tackled the big challenges whilst being mindful of potential impacts on our patients and staff.

“On behalf of the Board, I am extremely proud that Clare’s achievements were recognised last week in the Australia Day Honours List with the awarding of the Public Service Medal for outstanding service to rural and remote health.”

Ms Douglas came to Cairns from Mackay HHS as interim Chief Executive in June 2016 and was formally appointed to the role of Chief Executive in December 2016.

It’s believed that she is returning to Melbourne to be closer to her family, her resignation will become effective on 20 March.

Tina Chinery (currently the Executive Director Cairns Services) will act as the Chief Executive until a replacement is found.
