The Queensland Health Minister has just confirmed Cairns first coronavirus case.

The Queensland Health Minister has just confirmed Cairns first coronavirus case.

50 new cases of coronavirus have been confirmed in Queensland today, bringing the state's total to 144.

In a press conference, the Queensland’s Health Minister Steven Miles and Chief Health Officer Dr Jeannette Young confirmed that a patient currently in an isolation ward at Cairns Hospital has tested positive for COVID-19.

She has been hospitalised in isolation as per Queensland Health protocols.

The number of confirmed COVID-19 cases in Australia is now 636 confirmed cases with 94 in Queensland.

You can help protect the vulnerable in our community by:

• cleaning your hands regularly with soap and water or alcohol-based hand rubs.
• covering your nose and mouth with a tissue or bent elbow when coughing or sneezing.
• avoiding touching your face, nose and mouth. And avoid shaking hands.
• staying home if you are unwell.
• staying 1.5m away from anyone coughing or sneezing.
