Cup day success

THE Atherton Turf Club hosted the Atherton Cup on Saturday with racegoers enjoying a great day on and off the track.

THE Atherton Turf Club hosted the Atherton Cup on Saturday with racegoers enjoying a great day on and off the track.

The races were tightly contested giving race fans some action packed fun for their day out.

Kicking off the day of racing was the 1000M Maiden Plate which was a tight finish between first, second and third with the differences in the milliseconds.

First went to Mac Me Mate ridden by Graham Watson followed closely by Millaa Muss ridden by Wanderson D’Avila and Brands Hatch ridden by Rachel Shred on a 0.8 and a 1.3 margin respectively.

The 1000m Class B Handicap went to The Frontier ridden by Emily Cass followed by Rachel Shred on Aritomo on a 6.0 margin and Firerise ridden by Wanderson D’Avila a 6.8 margin.

The 1200m Open Handicap was won by Windmill Lane ridden by Kate Southam followed by Hidden in Heaven ridden by Graham Kliese on a 2.0 margin and third went to Dream I Can ridden by Emily Cass on a 2.3 margin.

The 1400m Benchmark 50 Handicap was another tightly contested race with Clout ridden by Scott Gittos taking first followed by Elite Jet ridden by Frank Edwards on a 0.2 margin then Sweet June ridden by Wan- derson D’Avila on a 0.3 margin.

Lastly the 2000m Atherton Cup Open Handicap went to Buxton ridden by Graham Kliese followed by Guangzhou ridden by Marnu Potgieter on a 0.4 margin and Greycliffe ridden by Escott Sheargold following closely on a 0.8 margin.
