AFTER months of waiting a fallen Tablelands soldier has finally had his sacrifice recognised after the name J.P Feely was added to the Mareeba Cenotaph.Fallen soldier honoured

The mistake on the Mareeba Cenotaph was brought to the attention of Mareeba Shire Council in April of this year after local historic researcher Elwyn Troughton discovered that the name J.B Effley was incorrect.

J.P Feely was the first casualty of the Second World War from the Tablelands and now his sacrifice will be properly honoured.

A statement from Council released to The Express stated, “For now, the name JB Effley will remain on the cenotaph as it’s not possible to remove the etched name from the marble without replacing the entire panel of the cenotaph.”
