Granite Mareeba Lodge makes special delivery to local Meals on Wheels

MAREEBA Meals on Wheels is the proud owner of a new computer, thanks to a donation from the local Freemasons to help streamline services.
With the help of Hand Heart Pocket the Charity of Freemasons Queensland, Granite Masonic Lodge, donated $2,000 towards the purchase.
Lodge representative Roy Blakeney said the Lodge had supported Mareeba Meals on Wheels for a number of years and was delighted to be able to do so again.
“Many people in the Mareeba region rely on Meals on Wheels,” Roy said.
“The volunteers do such incredibly important work that enhances the lives of the elderly and housebound, so we’re happy to be able to support them in this way.
“This new computer will help them to improve the efficiency of their processes, which will give them more time to do the important work of delivering meals and having conversations with often isolated people.”
Hand Heart Pocket Chief Executive Officer Gary Mark thanked Granite Masonic Lodge for its initiative and said the donation aligned with one of the organisation’s long-term strategies of supporting the ageing population.
“Improving the quality of life of the elderly is one of Hand Heart Pocket’s key areas of focus,” he said.
“Together with the Lodge, we are proud to help local organisations like Meals on Wheels to provide critical support to isolated members of the community,” he said.
As an independent charity founded by the Freemasons of Queensland, Hand Heart Pocket helps in areas of state-wide and local need that have limited access to other funding.
They work with other charities to identify and fund initiatives that have real, life-changing potential.
They also collaborate with Freemason Lodges across Queensland and Papua New Guinea and help individuals in times of extreme need to get them back on their feet.
