THE Emerald Creek Ice Creamery is one of the region’s most reputable businesses, and they recently received their due recognition after they achieved TripAdvisor Hall of Fame status.

TripAdvisor’s Hall of Fame recipients are businesses that have been awarded the TripAdvisor Certificate of Excellence honours five consecutive years. The Certificate of Excellence acknowledges businesses in the hospitality industry that consistently provide great service, and 2019 marked Emerald Creek Ice Creamery’s fifth straight year achieving the feat - having done so previously in 2015, 2016, 2017 and 2018.

To make the achievement all the more impressive, the family owned business has only been operating for just over 11 years. Emerald Creek Ice Creamery’s Sharon Wilson said she and her family are extremely proud of being named a TripAdvisor Hall of Fame recipient.

“It’s recognition of all the hard work our family has put into ensuring the business’ success,” she said.

“In today’s day and age, our visitors are very discerning and have exceptionally high standards which we appreciate, so we work on a 24/7 basis to meet those needs.”

The Emerald Creek Ice Creamery boasts a 4.5 star TripAdvisor rating and a 4.6 star Google rating (5 star rating system), to go along with being ranked the number one eating experience in Mareeba.

Mrs Wilson believes their enviable ratings are because of their exceptional product, value for money, customer service, and most importantly, their propensity to support local farmers and businesses.

“A lot of people who come here want to know that the product they’re buying is made locally,” she said.

“Not only for the wonderful produce that the food bowl that is the Tablelands offers, but also because it gives them reassurance that they are giving back to the community.

“In addition to that, I think customers like coming to a family-owned business - they’re dying out and I think they appreciate that local, homely experience that we can give them.

“We’re not flashy or fancy – what we’re about it providing a great visitor experience to coincide with our fantastic products which come at a great price.”

With 22,000 litres of ice cream and sorbet (40 flavours) churned out every year, it’s a highly intensive job for Mrs Wilson, her brother Geoff and her parents Scott and Lorraine, yet they continue to add to their status as one of the best businesses in Mareeba.

Mrs Wilson said they couldn’t have achieved any of this without their customers.

“I would like to take this opportunity to thank those who support us,” she said.

“That’s both the tourists passing through and the repeat customers who come in every week, we feel quite humble that you choose to spend your hard-earned cash with us, particularly in trying times.

“I personally want to recognise my brother Geoff and parents Scott and Lorraine; they all work so hard and are integral to the Emerald Creek Ice Creamery’s success.”
