After five years of planning and design preparation, development has well and truly commenced on the new John Cole Toyota Atherton dealership at 7813 Kennedy Highway.

The new building will be home to both Toyota and Isuzu showrooms, used vehicles, a state-of-the-art workshop and a body and paint centre.

Trevor Cole Manager and son of John Cole said locals and staff were looking for forward to the new building.

“So far community feedback has been sensational,” he said.

“Residents and staff can’t wait to see what it looks like.”

Once the new building is finished Mr Cole said they will be able to show more vehicles in the showroom.

“Our workshop area will be three times bigger, our panel shop will moved and both of them will be state of the art,” he said.

“The new premises will entice people to shop and work here and we will definitely be looking for more staff once the building is open and the business grows.

“We are building this to employ more locals and keep locals in town.

“John is not doing this for him, he is doing it for the community and the people that work for him.

“He is building for the future growth of the town.”

Royce Slade who is the Director of Keir design and construction said local contractors were given priority in the building of the new development.

“We will have over 20 local Tablelands subcontractors, suppliers and businesses involved in the development and construction, of this site,” he said.

“The project will take about 9 months from start to finish and the expected completion date in June of this year.

“We have about 20 to 30 guys on site and anyone time.”

Mr Slade said the new building would include a 1,700m2 new and used vehicle showroom, offices and amenities, a 1,200m2 workshop with associated facilities and a 700m2 paint and panel facility.

“As well as over 1,200m3 of concrete in the building,” he said.

“Even though we have had a lot of wet weather lately we are still on track for opening in mid-2021.

“To see John Cole Toyota investing in Atherton and developing something like this is great for the Tablelands and Keir Qld are very proud to be associated with the project.”
