Shopping Fans were in for a treat last week as the new K hub (Kmart) opened in Mareeba.

The new store opened on Wednesday, February 17 on Walsh Street on the site of the old Target Country store.

The opening comes after Wesfarmers announced in May 2020 that up to 167 Target and Target Country stores would be shut or converted to Kmart stores.

In a later announcement, Wesfarmers confirmed that Target Atherton would close, while the Target stores in Mareeba and Port Douglas would convert to K-Mart.

Target Mareeba closed its doors on January 30, while Target Atherton closed on January 23, it’s believed that some Target Atherton staff picked up jobs at the new Mareeba K hub.

Jess Gorton, Store Manager of K hub Mareeba said they were happy to be open and trading in Mareeba.

“We’ve been part of the Mareeba community for the past 14 years and we’re so excited to continue our journey with Kmart,” she said.

“Our K hub store is stocked full of great value, on-trend products that we know our customers are going to absolutely love.

“The store will also offer customers unprecedented accessibility to two of our key Kmart Group brands, as the hub will become a collection point for online Target orders.

“Customers will also be welcomed into store with some familiar faces. 19 of our Target team members have joined the K hub team; and we’re thrilled to have been able to recruit another 7 team members from the local community with additional recruitment still ongoing.”

The new K-hub is open 7 days in Walsh street.
