KENDRA McCarthy will be representing her home town of Mareeba when she competes in the National Finals of the coveted Miss Teen Australia Pageant this week.

The 15-year-old St Stephens Catholic College student was recently named a runner up at the Queensland Miss Teen State Finals and was awarded ‘Best in Interview’ for the Junior Category.

Kendra will be the only pageant representing North Queensland this year and will be competing against the nation’s best when she undertakes the weeklong competition in Launceston, Tasmania.

Contestants are judged on personal interviews, presentation, attitude, active wear and evening gown.

Following a series of functions and events, the 15th Miss Teen Australia Official Crowning Ceremony will take place on July 6.

“I’m really excited to be a part of this and appreciate all the support and well wishes I have received in the lead up” Kendra said.

“I’m especially pleased that my efforts will be supporting our less fortunate farmers.”

Miss Teen Australia is a community-based pageant which encourages contestants to fundraise for a cause that is special to them.

Kendra’s chosen charity is The Drought Angels as she noted that “this is something very close to my heart”.

“The Drought Angels are helping our drought affected farmers who represent over 60% of Queensland,” she said.
