Local Holden dealer says "we are here to stay"

Coming off the news that Holden would cease trading by the end of this year, Dealer Principal and Owner of Redding Holden in Atherton Nike Page posted a statement on the Redding Motors social media page.

“To our loyal customers both of the past and the present, I cannot express enough our deepest regret of the news we all received yesterday. Please rest assured that Holden and GM will honour all warranties, recalls and offers such as the current 7 years free servicing, for a period of up to 10 years.

“We will remain a service centre and parts facility for the same.

“There is plenty of water to flow under the bridge and we will have to make some hard decisions within our business, but please we remain open for business so don’t write us off just yet!

"We have some great product from very reputable brands. Mitsubishi, Honda, Can-am, Seadoo, Stacer, Evinrude, Tohatsu.

"And a fully fitted and very experienced workshop that works on all makes and models from servicing to general repairs.

“Redding’s has been a Holden Dealer for 52 years and a proud Local Tablelands business; we are still open and watch this space for future news.”

It’s believed that local Holden dealers were only notified of the news approximately 30 minutes before media outlets and that Holden will make between 600 – 800 people redundant by the end of the year.

Local dealers have said that it’s too early to tell if any local jobs will be lost.

According to a statement from General Motors and Holden Australia:

"With a heavy heart, Holden announced today that General Motors will be retiring the Holden brand in Australia and New Zealand. This announcement will be felt deeply by the entire Holden family, our customers and our fans.

We will immediately begin working with our dealer partners across Australia and New Zealand to implement an orderly transition, including support for our existing customers.

Holden will continue to support customers in the following ways:

  • Honour all existing warranties and guarantees
  • Honour all free scheduled servicing offers
  • Ongoing call centre support
  • Provide servicing and spare parts for at least 10 years, through national aftersales networks in Australia and New Zealand
  • Recalls or safety-related issues if they arise

GM has taken this difficult decision after an exhaustive analysis of the investment required for Holden to be competitive for the long term in Australia's and New Zealand's new car markets. Regrettably, this assessment determined such an investment could not meet GM's investment thresholds, including delivering an appropriate return."
