CHAIRMAN of the Mareeba and Memorial Bowls Club Managing Committee Ray McCarthy has refuted claims that the long-standing club is in financial trouble.

“There has been misinformation going around town and from certain news outlets that the bowls club are experiencing financial difficulties which simply isn’t true,” Mr McCarthy said.

“We’re well and truly viable, and what we’re doing with this development is planning five years down the track and in doing so ensuring that we secure our long-term future.”

Mr McCarthy said the project will not only provide greater security moving forward, it will also deliver superior facilities\ than what is currently in place on Anzac Avenue.

“There are many members who have spent years with the club and have plenty of equity in that building,” he said.

“There’s no way they could’ve got that equity back; however with this money we will be able to provide them with better facilities, better conditions and in turn we will hopefully attract more bowlers to the club.”

Mr McCarthy said despite his disappointment surrounding the speculation of the Mareeba and Memorial Bowls Club’s financial status, he noted his excitement with the development’s proceedings.

“We will start the refurbishments on the toilet facilities on Monday (July 29, 2019),” he said.

“In addition, we’re busy getting the plans drawn for the main building and we’re about to sign the contracts for the artificial green and overhead shade cover.

“Exciting times are ahead for the club and I’m really enjoying being a part of it.”
