The 23rd Mareeba Multicultural Festival will be held on 28 August with a theme of “Cultural Foundations”, featuring dance and music by hundreds of performers from many different cultures along with food showcasing a range of cuisines from around the world.

Mareeba Shire Council last week approved the new advisory committee, with Councillor Mary Graham named as chair and Francesco Avolio, Giuliano Cordenos (who instigated and ran the festival for many years), Fred Cristaldi, Sabrina Liaver, Milabelle Krauss, Fatima Metou, and Iuto Patolo appointed as members.

Following on from the resignation of the previous Chair Jennifer Murat earlier this year, a gap was identified in the tasks required to pull the event together, prompting council to advertise for an event coordinator who could assist in arranging sponsorships and prizes, managing the performance schedule, planning the program for the day as well as advertising and marketing the event.
