Police happy with long weekend restriction results

Long weekend results after eased COVID-19 restrictions
Far Northern officers we ready for business as usual after the COVID-19 restrictions were relaxed over the weekend.

Far North Assistant District Officer, Acting Superintendent Mark Lingwood was pleased to see the majority of people out and about were compliant with the Chief Health Officer’s directions.

“Whilst the majority of people were doing the right thing, there were a few that required reminders,” Acting Superintendent Lingwood said.

“Innisfail was a hot spot for us after a house party involving approximately 15-20 young people saw the party attendees run off into the bush, whilst the party organiser was issued with an infringement notice.

“A total of ten infringement notices were issued over the long weekend for all of the far north, with seven of those notices issued to a group of people drinking in an Innisfail park.

Tableland’s Patrol, Acting Inspector Kyell Palmer said Tinaroo Dam was extremely popular with an influx of visitors attending the dam for jet ski, water ski and boating activities over the weekend.

“There were no major or flagrant breaches of the COVID-19 directions however a small number of people were spoken to in regard to maintaining social distancing,” Acting Inspector Palmer said.

“I’d like to thank the visitors for using common sense and for the most part, adhering to the rules.”

Police have also wanted to remind the community that they will continue to patrol and monitor hot spot areas like swimming holes, beaches and parkland to ensure people are maintaining their social distance, staying within their 50 km radius from their home and socialising with their immediate family/housemates and one other person in a public space.
