A LOCAL travel consultant and race day fashionista is off to Brisbane in a few weeks to compete in the Queensland State Finals of Miss World Australia.
In 2019, Mareeba’s Rowena Petersen was accepted into the preliminary final of the Miss World competition, which then took her to the Gold Coast to compete in March of last year.
Now in just a few short weeks, Rowena will be off to compete in the State Final to be held at the Hotel Grand Chancellor on March 26 . Judging is based on a three sections – highest fundraiser, modelling and public speaking.
Miss World started in 1951 and has since raised more than $250 million dollars for children’s charities around the world. Two Australian representatives have won the Miss World title, first in 1968 and then again 1972.
If Rowena gets through to the next round, she will then be off to the national final which then could lead to international finals. So far Rowena has raised just over $4000 for Variety Australia, the children’s charity and said she will keep raising money up until the date of the state finals. “I can keep raising money right up until the day before the finals,” she said.
Rowena said she wants to make a difference in the lives of Aussie kids in need. “I'm inspired by the work of Variety Australia and wanted to support them by raising money,” said Rowena. “The more people that know about Variety Australia, the greater their impact.”
