State Governor visits Mareeba
MAREEBA residents got the chance of a lifetime after the Governor of Queensland His Excellency The Honourable Paul De Jersey AC was taken on a tour of the town.
MAREEBA residents got the chance of a lifetime after the Governor of Queensland His Excellency The Honourable Paul De Jersey AC was taken on a tour of the town.
His Excellency first stopped off at the Mareeba State School (MSS) where he got a front row seat to both the Auslan Choir and their Indigenous Dance Group before moving into the library to read to some eager young readers.
After his visit to MSS he stopped by the Golden Drop Winery where he experienced some of the best the north had to offer before his meeting with the Mareeba Shire Council.
While in the Council Chambers the Governor stated that he loves to get out into the regional areas of Queensland and spoke about Mareeba and its impact.
“I am delighted to be making my first official visit to the thriving town of Mareeba,” he said.
“To learn more about your Shire’s communities and to thank you for the contribution you make to Queensland’s prosperity.
“This part of the Atherton Tablelands is renowned for its fertile soils, open spaces, clear skies and bountiful produce, but it is also known for its admirable ability to adapt and innovate.”
After a quick trip to Lotus Glen Correctional Centre his Excellency was joined by past and current Mareeba Shire Council Mayors Tom Gilmore and Angela Toppin at the Mareeba Airport for the turning of the soil for a new hanger scheduled to be built.
