Public nuisance, Atherton

Police have charged a local man after an incident on Saturday evening in Atherton.

It will be alleged that the man was located at about 11.30pm, standing in the middle of Main Street, blocking traffic.

It will further be alleged that the man was yelling and swearing at two women who were sitting nearby, and refused to change his behaviour when spoken to by police.

The 19-year-old man is expected to appear in the Atherton Magistrates Court on March 22, charged with committing a public nuisance offence.

Drink driving, Mareeba

A 27-year-old local man has been charged after being intercepted on the Kennedy Highway, Mareeba, at about 8.40am on Sunday (February 27) by Mareeba Highway Patrol.

Police conducted a roadside breath test, and as a result of that test, the man was taken to the Mareeba Police Station for further testing.

It will be alleged that the man returned a positive reading of 0.181 per cent BAC.

He was later charged with driving whilst under the influence of liquor (high range drink driving) and his licence was immediately suspended.

The 27-year-old man is scheduled to appear in the Mareeba Magistrates Court on March 14.

Drug charges, Malanda

Police have charged a local man after executing a search warrant on Sunday morning in Malanda.

The warrant was executed at about 9am at an address on Malanda Lake Barrine Road and a man was detained.

Police located a small hydroponic setup in the garage, locating both dried and drying green leafy material alleged to be cannabis, along with drug utensils.

The 31-year-old local man was charged with one count each of possess dangerous drugs, produce dangerous drugs, possess drug utensils and possess property suspected of having been used in connection with a drug offence.

He is scheduled to appear in the Atherton Magistrates Court on March 29.

Traffic crash and drink driving, Mareeba

Police have charged a local man after an incident in Mareeba on Sunday evening (February 27).

It will be alleged that at about 10.30pm the man failed to negotiate a right-hand turn from Doyle Street onto Keeble Street and collided with a street sign.

It will further be alleged that police located the man at an address on Middlemiss Street at about 11pm, after he allegedly crashed into the wall of a licenced premise.

Police conducted a roadside breath test, and it will be alleged that the man returned a positive reading of 0.084 per cent BAC.

The 33-year-old local man is expected to appear in the Mareeba Magistrates Court on March 14, charged with drink driving.

Police are continuing to investigate both traffic crashes.
