Mareeba Meals on Wheels has received a much needed $1000 donation that will go towards the purchasing of new kitchen equipment.

Member for Cook Cynthia Lui made the visit to Mareeba on Wednesday and presented the cheque to Mareeba Meals on Wheels President Patricia Goldfinch.

Mrs Goldfinch said that the money will be used to purchase a new 30-litre pressure cooker.

“Our service relies heavily on volunteers in the kitchen, delivery and governance of the organisation,” she said.

“Every dollar counts to continue our Meals on Wheels service.”

Ms Lui said Meals on Wheels prepared and delivered nutritious meals to older residents, people with disabilities or people recovering from illness or hospitalisation.

“This will help the kitchen volunteers to increase the number of meals they cook to meet increased demand they have experienced over the past four months,” Ms Lui said.

“This valuable service keeps the community connected – Meals on Wheels volunteers keep clients engaged socially.

“I congratulate Meals on Wheels and it’s volunteers on their dedication and practical service to the community.”
