Violett Drinkwater-Sherman was just 11 weeks old when she suffered a bleeding brain tumour and was flown to Brisbane for life-saving treatment on Sunday, February 21. Parents, Dave and Elizabeth Sherman were in the middle of moving back to Mareeba to start new jobs when the emergency unfolded.

Mareeba resident Jayde Coyne said he had to do something after he found out that his future best man’s baby daughter was in trouble.

“David and Liz just had a baby, and he was moving back to Mareeba to start working with me, after working down south for a while,” Jayde said.

“On the Sunday morning he got a phone call that his little girl was deteriorating quickly and that they had to fly her urgently from Cairns to Brisbane.

“They didn’t even think she would make it through the flight.”

Jayde said he is hoping to raise enough money to help fund the recovery for Violet and support the family during this tough time.

“It will help them out financially until they can finish moving up here and start their jobs,” he said.

“They were between homes and jobs, while moving and then this happens, we are just hoping to give them a helping hand to get back on their feet.

“As a new parent myself, I can’t imagine the pain that Dave and Elizabeth would be experiencing through such a tragic event.

“There is nothing we can say to take the pain away, however, we hope that this fundraiser will help them on the road to recovery for Violet and her parents.”
