The Watkins have added another award to their growing portfolio with Krista Watkins being named as Queensland’s latest #eatqld Champion.

The Natural Evolution co-founder and managing director was nominated for this award for her passionate support of local Queensland produce.

The #eatqld Campaign was introduced by the government to help encourage communities to eat local, stay healthy and to help better grow and support jobs in Queenslands booming agricultural sector.

Krista is the only female to receive this award will join only two other Queenslanders who have won the #eatqld award; Bowen Horticulturalist Carl Walker and Brisbane Convention and Exhibition Centre’s Executive Chef David Pugh.

The Watkins work at Natural Evolution hasn’t gone unnoticed with them gathering award after award after 10 years of strenuous hard work at Natural Evolution.

Krista said that becoming the latest #eatqld Champion was recognition for all the development and work they do at Natural Evolution.

“It’s really great recognition for me as the first female to win this award,” she said.

“I do a lot of work in the food and beverage space particularly in Queensland and I am really passionate about Queensland produce.

“This is a really good opportunity for me to promote many of the great food producers that we have here in Queensland.”

Krista sees this award as a great opportunity to not only grow her business but to also assist with other businesses growth.

“I think this is a great platform for me to get access to more producers and inevitably help them with their sales connections,” she said.

“I can put my hand out there and help other people as well, it’s a real great synergy and I’m really looking forward to sinking my teeth into it.

“We will continue to help our local farmers with solutions for their excess produce.”

Minister for Agricultural Industry Development and Fisheries Mark Furner spoke about Krista and why she deserved such an award.

“Natural Evolution Foods has found innovative uses for otherwise wasted green bananas,” he said

“Including gluten-free banana flour and a range of skin care products.

“Krista’s passion for creating new, high-value food products that help local farmers generate additional income makes her the perfect choice as our third #eatqld Champion.”
