Leaders call up for Challenge
MAREEBA Lions Club’s Young Leaders in Service are calling on the local community to get involved in Challenge for Change, a month-long fundraising initiative taking place throughout March 2026 to support mental health and wellbeing.

Challenge for Change encourages participants to set a personal challenge and complete it over the course of the month, with activities designed to suit all ages and abilities.
Participants can choose to walk, run, ride, swim, read and volunteer completing either the minimum target set or a personal goal of their choice.
The cost to participate is $50, with participants able to simply register and take part, or participate and invite friends, family and colleagues to support them through additional fundraising if they choose.
The initiative is being led by the Mareeba Lions Young Leaders in Service, a group of local 16-year-olds who complete a 12-month leadership program working alongside seasoned Lions volunteers on community projects and service initiatives.
“You don’t need to be an athlete to take part. This challenge is about doing what suits you, at your own pace, while supporting mental health and wellbeing in our community,” Lion Norma Maloney said.
Funds raised will support youth mental health and wellbeing programs that align with the Australian Lions Wellbeing Foundation and Lions International’s global focus on wellbeing.
Challenge for Change is open to individuals, families, schools, workplaces and community groups, and also provides options for people to donate directly or sponsor a participant.
“Sign up today and be ready to go by March 1,” Norma said.
Registrations are now open, with options to participate, donate, or support someone taking on a challenge. Register at https://go.rallyup.com/lionschallengeforchange
