League gets behind Foxy

THE local roller derby league is rallying behind one of its own, who is fundraising to be able to compete overseas in the Australian Junior Roller Derby Open Team.

Emmerson Corkill, better known on the track as Foxy Fierce, is a young roller derby skater from Townsville who travels to Cairns every week to train with Cairns Roller Derby.

Corkill was recently selected to represent Australia at the Junior Roller Derby World Cup in Scotland next July.

In the spirit of camaraderie, the Tablelands Roller Derby League is hosting a fundraising event featuring a sausage sizzle and bake sale alongside its free come and try day and interclub scrimmage this weekend.

The event will be held at Atherton State High School this Sunday, with the come and try day beginning at 11am and the scrimmage taking place from 1pm.
