League returns
LOCAL rugby league returns this weekend, with both local sides ready for action.
The Atherton Roosters have a tough challenge ahead of them this Saturday as they head down the hill to take on the Cairns Brothers.
The Cairns side currently holds first place on the ladder but are tied on 24 points with the Innisfail Leprechauns, with the Roosters trailing just behind on 23.
Games will be held at Stan Williams Park, with the Under 19s getting things underway from 2.15pm, followed by Reserve Grade at 3.45pm, and A Grade at 6pm.
Meanwhile, the Roosters Women will have a chance to contest another grand final if they make it through their sudden death semi final this week. They are set to face off against the Southern Suburbs at Jones Park, Cairns on Friday night from 6.50pm.
The Mareeba Gladiators, currently fourth on the FNQRL ladder, will travel to Yarrabah to take on the Seahawks.
The Mareeba side took down Brothers two rounds ago and lost in the final seconds to the Leprechauns the following week – setting the stage for what will likely be an intense finals series for all teams involved.
The Under 19s will kick things off at Jilara Oval this Saturday from 3pm, followed by the Reserves at 4.30pm, and A Grade at 6pm.
