Life membership, platinum award for Srhoj
A PLATINUM award from Football Queensland (FQ) and a Life Membership with the club he serves has capped off a season to remember for Mareeba United’s Alex Srhoj.
Srhoj was given the Far North and Gulf Service to Football Platinum award for his 20-plus years of contribution and dedication to local football.
Adding to this honour, Srhoj was also inducted as the newest Life Member of Mareeba United at the club’s recent presentation night, which he was “incredibly humbled and honoured” to receive.
“To be recognised alongside the amazing people who have been awarded Life Membership before me is something I’m extremely proud of and will always cherish,” he said.
“This club has been such a big part of my life for so many years, and the friendships, memories and experiences along the way are something I’ll forever be grateful for.
“I’ve been lucky enough to work alongside some incredible people who share the same passion and love for this great club. Mareeba United is more than just a football club – it’s a family, a community, and something I’m incredibly proud to be part of.
“Thank you to everyone for this incredible honour. It truly means the world to me. Once a Bull, always a Bull.”
Srhoj now joins his parents Stipan and Barbara Srhoj, and uncle and aunty Makse and Denise Shroj, as Life Members of the club.
Speaking to his FQ award, Srhoj said, “There are so many people who have contributed so much to football in FNQ, so to be recognised among them is very special.
“You never do it for the recognition. You do it for the people at the club, the friendships you build, and the company you enjoy along the journey. Having those efforts recognised really does means a lot.”
Over the years, Srhoj has coached the ladies, youth, reserves, and premier men’s teams. He’s served as president, vice-president, club technical director, social media coordinator, grants officer and general committee member, and is currently a development coach as well as the grants and social media coordinator.
In a post to Facebook, the club personally congratulated his achievement.
“The club is incredibly proud to welcome Alex as a Life Member and is especially pleased to see him join other members of his family who have also received this prestigious honour,” it said.
“Congratulations, Alex, and thank you for your ongoing commitment to the Bulls family.”
