Lions ready to clean it up
MAREEBA Lions are calling on locals to make a difference in their community by participating in a Clean Up Australia event on Sunday 1 March.

Lions member Tom Braes said the new Mason Street Playground would be a likely meeting point for the clean-up but the overall area will be the Bicentennial Lakes and the rail trail.
“We’d love your help on the day. If you have a couple of hours to spare and would like to assist you are invited to register online, or just turn up on the day and register,” he said.
“The exact location of the starting point is yet to be determined but the area to be cleaned up is the rail trail from McIvor Road to Rankin Street, and the Bicentennial Lakes from Rankin Street to Granite Creek.
Registration is available at https://register.cleanup.org.au/join-a-clean-up and search for the 4880 postcode to bring up the Mareeba event which is event number 62083 and is called “See it pick it bin it”.
Participants are asked to wear sturdy enclosed footwear, wear a hat and bring their own water bottle. Gloves, pick up sticks and bags will be provided by the Lions.
Anyone interested should be at the Mason Street playground by 8am.
“This is a great opportunity to do some community service and rid the environment of rubbish,” Mr Braes said.
