Local boxers shape up
SEVEN local fighters will be on show at a tournament this weekend as the Mareeba Amateur Boxing Club hosts its final event for the year.
Hosted at the Mareeba Turf Club this Saturday from 5pm, the tournament will see boxers from as far as Weipa, Yarrabah and Townsville and around Far North Queensland contesting for a win.
Mareeba fighters will include Phillip Walsh, Thomas Gilbert, Michael Knap, Tosh Pichler, Marshall Thompson, Briannah Cater, and Tristan Cater.
For some of the local boxers, this will be their first chance to showcase their skills in front of a home crowd.
This tournament is the last one in the region before the Amateur Boxing State Titles held in Townsville on 20 September, with some of the Mareeba fighters preparing to travel to compete there.
The first fight will begin at 6pm and the venue will have food and beverages available for purchase.
