Atherton Cup winner, Love on Sunday, and Einasleigh Cup winner, Devil Kick, will represent Mareeba in the 1600m showdown this Saturday.

Love on Sunday’s win at the Atherton Cup made it eligible for the finals event, while Devil Kick got in through a third-place finish at the Hinchinbrook Cup in Ingham.

Maliff said it was exciting to have two horses running in this year’s final.

“It’s pretty exciting. We’ve got Love on Sunday, who’s an eight-year-old gelding. He’s won five Country Cups. Devil Kick is a six-year-old mare – she’s won nine races, including the Einasleigh Cup this year,” he said.

“This is our third qualification for the finals – we won it back in 2020. So we should know what we’re doing by now.”

Local punters can watch Maliff’s horses in action in Race 6 at Doomben this weekend. First place will win $116,000, second place, $37,000, and third place, $18,000.
