Park upgrades for Kuranda
The local Gregory Terrace Park in Kuranda will soon become a hotspot after upgrades were made to the park to include new play equipment and soft surfaces.

The upgrades were able to be done with $70,000 from the Queensland Government’s Works for Queensland program.
The Mareeba Shire Council has received $11.24 million across the first three rounds of the program which has enabled them to create/support 417 jobs across the shire.
Mareeba Shire Council Mayor Angela Toppin is excited for the new upgrades to be put to use and acknowledges the partnership with the Queensland Government.
“The Works for Queensland Program is an initiative that allows council to deliver projects that would not have been possible without the additional funding,” she said.
“Council is continuing a number of projects across the Shire whilst ensuing essential services are maintained during the COVID-19 pandemic.”
Member for Barron River, Craig Crawford said the project was an example of the impact the popular program was having on the region.
“The upgrades at Gregory Terrace Park will make an enormous difference to local families once the restrictions have been lifted,” he said.
“People will be keen to gather with family and friends they haven’t been able to see for a while and this will be the place to come and do just that.”
The Works for Queensland Program has already created/supported 19,000 jobs across the State, including the Mareeba Shire Councils 417 jobs.
Minister for Local Government Stirling Hinchcliffe congratulated the Mareeba Shire Council for finishing the Gregory Terrace Park upgrades for the Kuranda community.
“This is exactly the kind of project the Works for Queensland program is designed to help councils deliver, with the outcome not only creating jobs but also increasing liveability,” Mr Hinchcliffe said.
“There is no doubt Works for Queensland is making an enormous difference to regional Queensland families.
“It is a wonderful example of what can be achieved when our two levels of government work together for the community.”
