Local women changing the world
TWO Tablelands women have picked up silver, bronze, and an honourable mention at the Women Changing the World Awards, which was held in Paris last Thursday.

Cowgirl Country’s Rebecca Magro and Moyamoya Australia’s Nicola Baker were both recognised at the global awards ceremony.
Rebecca received an honourable mention in the Small Business of the Year category and a bronze award for Rural Impact, while Nicola picked up silver for Volunteer of the Year.
Rebecca said she was incredibly proud of her achievements, especially the honourable mention for Small Business of the Year.
“To be honest it’s kind of crazy, and still sinking in. I’m incredibly proud to have come away with a bronze for Rural Impact and an honourable mention for Small Business of the Year – that was huge as it’s one of the most highly contested categories,” she said.
“When I stop and think about it, this all started as a small handmade hobby here in Far North Queensland, and now it’s being recognized on a global stage – it’s pretty wild.
“There’s definitely a part of me that wished I could have been there on the night, but more than anything I’m just really proud of what’s been built here and the support behind it. I don’t know that I’m out here changing the world, but I do believe the small things we do can change someone’s world in that moment, and that all adds up.
“This business has always been about more than just me, and I wouldn’t be here without the community that’s backed me every step of the way. It’s something I’m really proud to bring home, not only for myself but for our FNQ community.”
Nicola said after her win, “I am so elated to have been able to say the word Moyamoya on an international platform. The more people who hear the word Moyamoya, the better the outcome for patients and their families.
“And yes, I feel pretty good but boy I am tired. The awards were in Paris, so I was online at 11pm until the Volunteer of the Year Award was announced at 2.30am.”
