Long-awaited fix for roads
TENDERS have been awarded for two projects that will improve, not just replace, damaged roads caused by ex-Tropical Cyclone Jasper.

Mareeba Shire Council approved a contract of $1.43 million to IKCO Pty Ltd to upgrade the pavement of Lockwood Road and to apply a two-coat bitumen seal from Fichera Road to Henry Hannem Drive, with culverts to be widened if funds permit.
A second $864,980 tender was awarded to Gregg Construction Pty Ltd for the Wolfram Road culvert construction, which will upgrade the culvert at chainage 16,470.
The existing crossing is a single-barrel reinforced concrete pipe and is frequently damaged in rainfall events. It will now be replaced with a reinforced concrete box culvert.
Both projects are funded by the Commonwealth-State Disaster Recovery Funding Arrangements, through the Betterment Funding program, which enables essential public assets damaged in eligible events to be restored to a more resilient standard.
Betterment funding is a capped funding allowance, and any project over-runs or unforeseen costs over and above this allowance would be borne by the council.
