Major water upgrades to meet future growth
MAJOR water projects that will the improve water reliability, supply and quality to Tablelands Regional Council’s water network have been completed.

The Malanda Integrated Water Supply Project was initiated in response to current and future growth and development in the Johnstone River Estate and Peeramon areas,” Mayor Rod Marti said.
“We’ve constructed a 3.19ML reservoir and 4km of pipeline to connect the area to the Malanda Water Supply Scheme, and the new components came online last month.”
While $9.8 million was allocated to the project, final costs came in at $8.6 million, representing a significant saving.
“This financial year we will further add to the improvements to this system with a booster pump station – partially funded by the Residential Activation Fund,” Mayor Marti said.
The long-awaited improve-ments to the Millstream Water Supply Scheme are in final stages of testing and Cr Annette Haydon is looking forward to seeing the last of regular boil water notices for the Ravenshoe and Millstream areas.
“The Ravenshoe Water Quality Improvement Project has been years in the making and we are eagerly waiting for the new treatment plant to come online,” she said.
“The Ravenshoe reservoir was completed in 2022, and we’ve been constructing the water line to Millstream and water treatment plant over the last few years.
“Once it’s all operational, the Millstream and Ravenshoe areas will have a water supply that is no longer affected by weather events.”
The improvements to the two water supply schemes have come on the back of the recent completion of the $3.2 million Yungaburra Raw Water Replacement Project.
“The water intake pontoon on Lake Tinaroo and associated ageing and non-compliant facilities were replaced to provide more water security to the growing village of Yungaburra,” Cr Maree Baade said.
Mayor Marti acknowledged the time and effort that had been invested into bringing the projects to fruition.
“A lot of work goes into planning, funding, managing and executing these projects and I thank the many staff who have contributed over the years,” he said.
“I’m really proud of the progress of these major water projects and that the planning and delivery will meet the growth in our region.”
