Tablelands Regional Council has made a decision to build a new multi-purpose facility to service the town and its surrounds after closing the Patrick English Pavilion, with plans to demolish the structure soon.

The survey for the multi-purpose facility is aimed at everyone who may use such a venue, and seeks to understand what would meet current needs and what future demands for community look like.

“We are mindful of current impacts on users of the Malanda Showgrounds such as the Malanda Show Society, Malanda Lions and Malanda Junior Rugby League club and will work closely with them but we are equally keen to hear from everyone who has an interest in a modern facility”, Deputy Mayor Dave Bilney said.

“We are open to all sorts of ideas on what is needed, including the ideal location, in order to cater for a growing Malanda.”

Tablelands Regional Council’s endorsed capital plan includes the planning and construction of three new multi-purpose facilities in major and district activity centres in the region – at Malanda, Ravenshoe and Atherton.

“These multi-purpose facilities support the objectives in our Community Facility Strategy 2019-29 which includes improved long-term asset and financial planning and sustainability,” Mayor Rod Marti said.

APEC Project Pty Ltd was recently contracted to conduct the feasibility, investigation and planning stages of the Malanda Multi-purpose Facility project and will be working alongside TRC staff to engage closely with the Malanda community.

“As a council, we’re committed to providing financially responsible fit-for-purpose facilities that meet the needs of the whole community now and into the future,” Mayor Marti said.
