Mayor orders drainage review
TABLELANDS Mayor Rod Marti has ordered a drainage maintenance review to improve the network’s ability to cope with the impacts of stormwater and run-off.

Mayor Marti acknowledged the rapid growth in the region in both urban and industrial areas, noting that the increasing pressure on the council’s drainage infrastructure was “higher than ever before”.
“The investment in drainage service levels and maintenance that we could get by with a few years ago may no longer be adequate as our catchments and drains are often overwhelmed,” he said.
Mayor Marti has tasked chief executive officer Nikola Stepanov with conducting a review focusing on the functionality of critical drainage infrastructure, starting with detention chambers and especially where buildings may be impacted by stormwater.
He said the CEO would bring a costed drainage servicing proposal to council’s budget deliberations for 2026-27 to include the servicing of known “hot spots that exist in our drains and stormwater infrastructure and our detention chambers”.
“This is a long-standing issue and I’m pleased that this council will have the opportunity to review the way it maintains stormwater infrastructure and drainage going forward,” Mayor Marti said.
He said the review would not include stormwater infrastructure on State-controlled roads or over State-owned sites.
