Mental health month helps build local awareness
OCTOBER is Mental Health Month, and the Mareeba Community Centre is inviting stallholders, stakeholders and the community to join in for a sausage sizzle at Rotary Park.

The event theme is “Build Community, Build Wellbeing”, and the centre hopes to see everyone come together to raise awareness and build connections around mental health.
Organisations and clients are welcome to set up a stall and can also send the centre their logos for inclusion in radio, press and social media promotion by COB tomorrow.
Mental Health Awareness Month is a nationally recognised month which advocates for and educates about mental health.
It has evolved over decades, reflecting the growing recognition of mental health as a public priority.
Early advocacy in Australia began with grassroots campaigns and support groups, gradually gaining momentum as government and non-profit organisations joined the cause and formally established October as Mental Health Awareness Month.
While international observances exist, Australian events address local issues, as well as fostering a national culture that values harm prevention and early support.
The Community Sausage Sizzle will be held on 2 October, 10.30am to 2pm, at Rotary Park, opposite the Mareeba Community Centre, on Byrnes Street.
