Millaa Millaa Falls closed
NO one will be able to visit Millaa Millaa Falls until mid-December, with Tablelands Regional Council closing the popular swimming area to enable a major upgrade to be undertaken.

The upgrade includes the relocation and installation of a new amenities block, a new roadway for better vehicle access, safer pedestrian zones, and a new forecourt adjoining the main viewing platform.
The closure will allow construction works to extend the existing upper staircase, replace the lower staircase and its wing walls, and continue the retaining walls in the forecourt area.
Council was told last week that the area must be fully closed from next Monday through to mid-December to allow contractors to get on with the job.
Acting chief executive officer Hilary Jackson said the area will be closed at the Theresa Creek Road entrance and no one will be allowed in – either by foot or in a vehicle.
She said tourist operators had been contacted.
The council was told the falls precinct would be re-opened in time for the Christmas break when the area is a sought-after swimming hole for locals and tourists.
Tablelands Mayor Kevin Cardew said he acknowledged that the full closure was not a desirable outcome but one they had to take due to delays in construction caused by the previous wet season.
“We’ve had to take these drastic measures otherwise there would be significant cost blow-outs,” he said.
Previously, council advised that no public toilets will be available until the end of the year. In the meantime, visitors should use public facilities in Main Street, Millaa Millaa.
