Missing rail trail link upgrade
A SECTION of the rail corridor at Atherton is set to be upgraded to fix a “missing link” in the popular trail.

The section between Grove Street and Main Street in Atherton will be redeveloped by the Tableland Outdoor Recreation Association (TORA) after it received grant funding from the Department of Transport and Main Roads to undertake the $74,100 project.
The project involves planting between 80-100 native trees along each side of the rail trail section, grading, levelling and resurfacing the trail to a 3-metre width, bank stabilisation works, and the establishment of two small garden beds at each end of the section.
TORA will also plant native grasses along the eastern boundary.
The project was endorsed by Tablelands Regional Council at its latest meeting and while the council will not have to provide an upfront funding, it will be responsible for the ongoing operation and maintenance.
In its application to the council, TORA advised the corridor was currently used daily by pedestrians, recreational cyclists, and school students travelling between Tolga and Atherton.
