AN innovative housing project at Malanda is in its final stages of construction, with those behind the project now seeking serious applicants who want to take up occupancy in the building.

The five-bedroom, five-ensuite dwelling is being built at 42 Gin Road, Malanda, by PeoplePurposePlace to house singles who are prepared to live with others who are likeminded.

Following a highly engaging second introductory session in November, the focus has shifted from enthusiastic general inquiries to seeking potential residents who want to be part of a co-living arrangement, sharing a kitchen, laundry, and 3.5 acres of outdoor space.

“The energy in the room has shifted,” PeoplePurposePlace ambassador Jana Mueller said.

“As the building is almost finished, the questions are becoming real. We are not talking about an idea anymore; we are discussing the real day-to-day mechanics of how this specific group of people will live, laugh, cry, and manage the space together.”

An upcoming session on Saturday at the property invites serious applicants and interested parties to start building the interpersonal bonds and skills that make co-living successful.

“We had fantastic engagement regarding the details of the lease and the layout,” PeoplePurposePlace founder Darren Finlay said.

“Now, the goal is to foster those connections. We are inviting people back, not just to learn, but to see if they ‘click’ with their potential future neighbours.”

At Saturday’s session, which will be held from 10am-2pm, attendees will tour the nearly-completed facilities and participate in facilitated practices and discussions using principles of Nonviolent Communication (NVC) to ensure that as the group forms, they are equipped with tools for good listening, healthy conflict resolution, and decision-making.
