“We have received $1.7 million from the Queensland Reconstruction Authority to upgrade 15 gully crossings in the southern part of our region,” he said.

“These improvements will make a significant difference to the resilience of our roads, and to the residents and producers who use them – and they’re 100% externally funded.”

The roads are: Top Nettle-Mt Misery Rd, Silver Valley (four crossings); Wairuna Rd, Minnamoolka (three crossings); Nymbool Rd, Mount Garnet (two crossings); Glen Gordon Rd, Innot Hot Springs (two crossings); Wild River Rd, Millstream (two crossings); Glen Gordon Rd, Innot Hot Springs (one crossing); and James Rd, Herberton (one crossing).

“We also received $716,000 to upgrade the Wild River crossing on Moomin Road to a concrete causeway,” Mayor Marti said.

The council was also successful with an application to the Residential Activation Fund, with $2.1 million awarded across four projects – Peakes Gully trunk sewer construction, Malanda booster pump station, Cook Street sewer pump station and pressure main (design), and Logan and Loder streets trunk water main (design).

“And while this funding requires some TRC financial input, the Queensland Government’s contribution towards these integral projects is significant,” Mayor Marti said.
