More opportunities on offer
MULTIPLE traineeship and apprenticeship opportunities are being offered by Mareeba Shire Council for next year.

The council is seeking enthusiastic and motivated individuals who are interested in undertaking traineeships and apprenticeships in plumbing, water treatment plant operations, plant operator/labourer (Civil Construction), and business administration.
The opportunities offer individuals the chance to earn while they learn, receive nationally recognised training, and gain hands-on experience in their chosen field.
Anyone who is interested must apply by 31 August.
The positions are ideal for school leavers or anyone eager to start a meaningful career with a supportive organisation. Participants will gain valuable on-the-job experience while completing a formal qualification, fully supported by council and its training partners such as Queensland TAFE.
Former trainee Mailee recently completed her Certificate III in Business Administration and now works as an executive administration officer with council.
“My experience as a trainee with the Office of the CEO was great and I learnt a lot,” Mailee said.
“The TAFE staff were supportive, and I had plenty of time to work on my studies. A highlight for me was getting involved in the community through events like Get Ready Tablelands at the Mareeba Drive-In.
“I would highly encourage others to apply – council is a great place to learn.”
Jayden, now in his second year as an apprentice diesel fitter, also praised the experience.
“There is a wide variety of work – from vehicle servicing and fabrication to field repairs on different types of machinery. I have found both the TAFE and Council teams really supportive,” he said.
“I’d say to any young person to give it a go! It’s a great pathway to build a solid career and learn new skills.”
The council says it is looking for school leavers, people with a current driver’s licence or working towards obtaining one, someone with a positive attitude, a good communicator, a reliable team player, able to complete both practical and course work, and those who are eligible to enrol in a certificate-level qualification.
Positions begin by 2 February 2026.
