Nameless bridge no more
THE bridge at Bushy Creek crossing in Julatten will from now on be known as Verri’s Bridge, following approval by the Mareeba Shire Council.

The Chapman’s Road crossing has always been nameless, but council agreed that in tribute to the longstanding presence of the Verri family and their “generosity” over the years to the community, their request for naming rights was approved without dissent.
The Verri family have a long-established connection to the Julatten area, including more than 40 years at their Chapman’s Road property and around 70 years within the Julatten district.
Council acknowledged the family had continued to be “accommodating and generous in granting access through their private property to neighbouring property owners and council, for periods of impact and upgrades to council infrastructure”.
Under the council’s Road and Water Crossing Naming Policy, it can “consider input from the community for naming of roads or water crossings after historical or significant places, themes, families and individuals within the relevant district”.
Signage for the bridge will cost approximately $1000 and will be absorbed by the council budget.
